Checking Facebook late at night? Bad idea

Last night near 11:00 p.m. I drug my sleepy self over to the computer to briefly check a friend's note on Facebook before plopping my tired self in bed.  But then I saw Nancy had posted this with the words "bumper to bumper traffic":

Hmmmmm.
And something about a Camp William fire near Herriman.
What is going on in my sister's neighborhood an entire state away from me?

And it all started coming together. . . that my sister, her husband and her two little ones were being evacuated due to an out of control wildfire threatening their area.
Suddenly I'm not feeling sleepy anymore.  I needed to know more.  Googled Herriman wildfire and pulled up this image.

Ummmm.  Bad idea.  Shoulda just gone to bed with no facebooking check, ignorance is bliss on my mind.
No way am I sleeping now.  Reports said strong winds were making it a tough fight.

Since I can't sleep, I decided to pray.
Prayed and prayed and prayed some more.

And then I felt like I could at least try to fall asleep, though it was an incredibly fitful version of rest (felt like a train had run over me by morning).  I knew she was out of there and the important thing was that she and her family had gotten to her in laws house to wait it out through the long night. Wait and see if their house survived.

Texted Nancy from bed first thing this morning and got the update.  Their house is still standing.  The fire fighters were able to save most of the homes--though 4 so sadly were lost--.  Nancy said it was a miracle and lots of peoples prayers were answered last night (including mine).  The governor said it was nothing short of a miracle, too, as they had feared hundreds would be lost.  I feel so sad for those four families that had their homes and possessions go up in flames.  But what a relief that it wasn't much, much worse and though a few injuries were reported, no lives lost.  Phew.   For Fox News Article click here.

And now I need a nap!

**Nancy and her family are home now and even posted in detail about the whole experience.  Read here.  You do want to know what she packed, right?!

Oh my goodness! I'm glad to hear their house is safe and so are they. How stressful. And even though you're sleepy, you at least had the opportunity last night (because you read Facebook) to send all those extra prayers. Maybe that's what tipped the scales. :)

I love that when you cannot sleep, you pray. I think that is a worthy alternative, and the best thing to do for a sister.

So scary! Once we were evacuated and the feeling of panic is amazing. I am so glad to hear Nancy and her home and family are all okay. Get some rest!

You're a sweet sister Becky. I was strangely calm through it all so I feel bad that you were so worried. Thanks so much for your prayers, we love you! It was bad, but sometimes it all looks worse on tv than when you can see where it actually is from your house.
