The Fam gets Fancy

Tonight was the Parfait Party.  It was impromptu (that's a fancy word for last minute).  Miss Sunshine's been begging me to have parfait's ever since she got her very own copy of Fancy Nancy when Grandma was in town (and you know I'm very partial to Fancy Nancy seeing as how we're related and all). She even wants to know when we're going to the King's Crown. For days I've been hearing, "is tonight the night we get to eat parfaits!!?"    Today when she asked, I grinned and said, "YES!"  In an attempt to make it truly worthy of the fancy moniker we broke out the table cloths, a few decorations and I even let the children use Great-Grandma's china.  They ran downstairs and got dolled up with accessories from the costume box* and we ate take-out cheese pizza off the gold rimmed plates!  Miss Sunshine even once fell flat on her face running around in excitement and we told her through her tears that it was in honor of the real Fancy Nancy's fateful fall at the restaurant.  This calmed her and helped her feel her pain was all a part of our special reenactment.   (Luckily we did not spill any parfait platters or shatter  grandma's heirlooms.)  After the pizza was gone and the kitchen tidied we broke out the parfait makings.  Drumstick flavored Dryers, graham cracker crumb toppings, whipped cream, some old Valentines sprinkles and a cherry on top.  It doesn't take much to make an average Saturday evening feel extra special.  Just a little ice cream, grandma's china and a feather boa.
Oh and don't forget your sunglasses!

Call me crazy, but I had so much fun doing this!
Check out charlie in the lizard cap and black shades.

*J Man, who did not feel like dressing up, said he was going to be the example of "not fancy".  We cracked up at this as it is soooo like him.

So glad Sophie talked you into the parfaits and the fancy nancy treatment. She did love the book and so did I. Wish we had still been there to have shared the party with you. What fun! Hope you got an email from your dad. We are in New Brunswick but it is too late for details. Tomorrow we go to P.E.I. I'm excited about that.
