Nie Benefit Concert in Review

**Nancy, this post is for you.

There is so much to say! Such a tribute to such good people. . .Where to begin? What to focus on? I"ll untangle my thoughts for you:

Mindy as house guest: just as lovely and real as you’d imagine. I’m most happy that Sprouts carries her favorite sore throat elixir. No scratchy vocals cords to be found! And I'm pretty sure she enjoyed our meals and that makes any host most pleased. It was a treat to have her in our home.

(More treats) Those cookies! I was waiting to see them in person; they did not disappoint! I still haven’t had to courage to eat such a work of art, though this afternoon may be the day.

Mindy as performer: consummate. She was so delightful. Her voice is pure, high and low. Her lyrics: thoughtful, introspective. She knows how to interact with the crowd, entertain. Her band was talented and funny. In short, the Mindy Gledhill concert was excellent (can you see how beautiful her outfit is?)

Little Claire and Jane on stage: strong voices, adorable spirits. I pretty much balled. The kind of balling where you’re trying not to let your shoulders shake. It was just too much to think about--all their entire family has been through, is still going through, will continue to go through--while they sang those sweet words “golden slumbers fill your eyes, smiles awake you when you rise. sleep pretty darling do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby”

Getting to know Doug Kinnard: touching. I was so pleased Mindy chose to dedicate a song to him. The accompanying slide show of photos let us see that this was a man that lived life without hesitations. He is greatly missed by many, many people.

Miss Cjane on stage: made the show. I’d been crying too much (I am pregnant you know--the concert was not set to be a tear jerker--we even stood up dancing and singing at one point--I just weep easily). But Courtney must've majored in Ultimate Diva Mannerisms: hand by the ear, mic pulled back with tension, intense eyes, subtle head shaking; Mariah herself had likely given her classes. My crying was over and it was time for "Smile"(s). I was so darn proud of her for re-singing her now famous duet, “Smile,” as the final number. It made the evening. Now I've said that twice. I must mean it.

After wards I got a little crazy & had to tell Madam Courtney that though she doesn’t know me, “she really should!” She was gracious and hysterical while giving me a big "I love you" hug. And Richie took our pictures . . . are we’re officially acting like paparazzi? Courtney, you know I will not sell these photos! We are tight now!

Reachel holding her godkids: priceless. From the looks of this bear hug embrace, I’m pretty sure those girls remember their godparents.

The entire experience, just right.

First a thank you for you most wonderful birthday wishes. This has turned out to be a rocking bd. Love you, love your blog, love knowing you're having another precious baby.

Thought you might like to know that I have to type (in the word verification)...limple. Isn't that so funny. I've been paying attention to what I have to type and some of it would make great pet names I think. Off to have a limple evening.

So glad the evening went well. Glad all went well with Mindy staying with you. Loved your telling about the whole experience. You and CJane look great together. Thanks for all the pictures.

P.S. I forgot to tell you. when I was young, we used to sing a lullaby with the same lyrics but a different tune than the one the girls sang with Mindy. Interesing.

Mom, its a Beatles song. Did they write it or is it a cover of a traditional lullaby? Its a beautiful song.

Becky, I didn't know it was a Beatles' song. But when I used to sing it there were no Beatles, so they must have taken the words from some one else. I could sing you those same words to a different melody that was probably a music festival song from when I was a child.
