A Compltely Self Indulgent Retrospective of Mammoth Size

Hard to believe, but here's the proof. 12 pictures of Sunshine, one for each month of the past year. This definitively means that tomorrow my baby has been alive for 2 whole years.* I had intended to do monthly "retrospectives" of her each month. Um. . .that didn't happen. So here's to catch up!

  • Nov 07 Family photos at Thanksgiving
  • Dec 07 Sunshine has a major shoe fetish. It lasts for months. If she sees shoes, she will put them on. Hmmmm. . . .now who does she get that from?
  • Jan 08 Back when Sweet Sunshine sat still long enough that I could actually do a "photo shoot" with her. Now she likes to smile, but never holds still. Instead she grabs the camera saying "Let me see, mom! Me see, mom!"
  • Feb: Her cell phone phase. Everything rectangular--including this piece of pizza--was a phone; she'd smash it up to her ear, "hewwo!"
  • Mar: She gets all motherly, despite the fact that she still vehemently wants her bottle
  • April: The girls dress her up in their clothes and play with her on the tramp
  • May: We set up the pool. She believes she's a dolphin.
  • June: Swim lessons. Definitely thinks she's a mammal of the underwater variety.
  • July: Horse back riding in Raymond
  • Aug: Hanging out at KFC
  • Sept: Girls Lunch to sonic. She steals my raspberry lemonaid slush.
  • Oct: 30 seconds after I'm done blow drying her hair, Sunshine silently opens the cupboard and pulls out the palm ade for a the "finishing touches" on her new do. Glamorous, no? I see a career in her future!
Things I want to remember about this age:
  • She knows the difference between "okay" and "fine" and says them with impeccable nuance. "Okay" is excited and bright. "Fine's" tone is of grouchy defeat. I can't wait for the eyes to roll.
  • She touches my face with one hand, moving my face to look at her imploring eyes. Then she slowly blinks: "Mom?" Blink, blink.
  • She can count to ten by herself. I've heard her do it.
  • She greets every one in the family with an individual "Good morning ________ ." She never leaves any body out.
Can you tell I'm basically in love with her? Yep. (I don't hide my love away very well. If I were in love with you, you would be able to tell in a matter of seconds.)

I guess its a good thing she's growing up, since she's gonna be a big sister in January. She's had several months practice mothering the baby dolls; time to move on up to the real deal (heaven help us!)

*How is it that my children age, while I just stay the same?

SOPHIE! You're not the only one in love. She has also stolen the hearts of everyone in our household, can't wait to see her on Sunday, Happy Birthday Sophie! P.S. can you imagine if her name wasn't Sophie? Halleleujah for brown hair.

I have been telling you for years that someday you would be thankful for your youthful looks. That is how your children can age and you just remain the same. Too bad their Grandma has to get old too! Sophie is indeed a beautiful child and so charming too. Hope she has a Happy Birthday.
