My Baby is a Mama

To put it succinctly: Miss Sunshine is baby crazy!

Little Miss Sunshine absolutely adores Berlin. We got to babysit Berlin the other day and I had to hold her (Sunshine) back from smothering her (Berlin) with love and affection. She started by bringing her empty bottles from the cupboard and just chucking them at her feet (no injuries sustained). One, two, three bottles. Then Sunshine'd take her pacifier and stick it in Berlin's mouth. Berlin would spit it out. Sunshine'd put it back in. This went on and on. Sunsine would clap and laugh and point and stare with a inquisitive look on her face. She was absolutely enthralled. Berlin didn't seem phased by all the attention and just kept crawling, drooling and checking things out.

So when we were in Target the other day, just me and Miss Sunshine, we happened to peruse the baby doll aisle. We were not looking for a toy to buy, just something to keep Sophie distracted so I could finish my shopping in peace. It just so happens that the marketers down at Fisher-Price company have some geniuses working there. They created a baby doll with a motion sensor in it that starts gently moving and making adorable, gurgling baby sounds when you walk past. It just magically comes to life, giggling, "Take me home with you. . . You'll love me." Okay, so it really doesn't say that, but I'm sure that's what Sunshine was thinking. I put the doll in Sunshine's hands and by the end of our trip 15 minutes later, we were hooked. (Am I gonna spoil this last baby rotten or what!?!) Totally over priced, but we brought that Little Baby home cause we certainly couldn't abandon Mama Sunshine's baby right there in the Target Aisle! And as you can read into this, I thought Sunshine's mothering was so darn cute that I wanted to bring the doll home, too.

It's been three days, and she still loves her. She gives it her bottle, she puts the pacifier in her mouth and the baby laughs and giggles and at nap time they both go down together. Another plus, the baby doll doesn't cry when Sunshine chucks bottles at her head.

So cute! I love to see little girls pretending to mother. It is such a great indicator of their ingrained purpose in life. And Sophie has such a great example teaching her!

I didn't figure this our until my last baby. You can't spoil her with "things" at this age so have your fun. You see you are really just indulging the child in yourself and I think that's the most healthy fun indulgence there is!

How fun for Soph! She's so much fun, too bad the doll doesn't have a little hair on her head though as that might help Sophie fall asleep. Too cute.
