Celebrating Motherhood

Mother's Day is a day to count your blessings. I get to count all the way up to five, so I'm feeling extra lucky. Normally, you don't get a lot of verbal payback as a mother of young children (mine still count as young, right?). It's one of those eternal investment kind of programs that may take some time for the rewards to show themselves (sometimes it feels like a loooooooong time!) But today I got many glimpses of the dividends . . .extra hugs, kisses, sweet homemade gifts and even extra cooperation (my favorite gift of all).

breakfast made by the kids

from The Professor:

from Luna:

from StarGirl:
(funny aside: StarGirl went late night grocery shopping with me Sat. and snuck off and bought this with her own money. She tried to sneak it in the cart and when I questioned her she said she'd bought it because she was starving hungry. I tried to persuade her to go ahead and eat it, but she kept saying she wanted to save it to drink with milk later, and then she went on and on about how hungry she was the whole shopping trip! I tried and tried to get her to eat it not realizing that she had bought it as a gift to give me. The whole time I was thinking, this girl has such intensely picky taste buds that she will not eat this without a glass of milk! So funny now.)

from The Baron:
a plate on which he drew this very special picture. . .
it's a picture of me with my arms outstretched to give him a hug!
He is very proud of this picture and "re-gives" it to me
at various times through out the day.
from Handsome:

The Red Roses
and a vow to give me an entire Saturday of
Honey Do Work Time
(in writing, even)
I am very much looking forward to this!

These I bought for myself. . .

(It reads YOUR Courage, YOUR Cheerfulness, YOUR Resolution WILL BRING US VICTORY. Love that message. . .fitting for mother's, children and WWII Englander's alike!)

And, in a larger size:
I love it!
All strong women (or wanna be strong women like myself)
should have one of these gorgeous
1940's stiff upper lip propaganda posters from England.

Seriously, go get one on Etsy before they sell out.

To prove I really did get some extra cooperation this Mother's Day, I show you Exibits A, B and C. . . My daughters let me DO THEIR HAIR! (With zero complaint, I might add.) It was marvelous and goes down as one of my favorite mother's day gifts from 4th grader twin girls ever. Thank you, beautifuls!

A:B:

C:

If you know my girls, you know this is a treat for me! They have the most tender heads on the planet and usually think they are far too old to have their mother do their hair!

Check out the inspiration for their hair do's here
She gives a new hair do with step by step instructions
and photos for nearly every day!
Just what a hair challenged girl like me needs.

So Thanks for making me a Mom, kids.
It's the greatest challenge with the greatest rewards ever!

The hair blogs is one of my online friends (MOF) - she is becoming quite popular as I had a friend from my ward tell; me about her too!

So glad you had a good Mother's Day. You are a most excellent Mother! Your girls' hair looks so pretty. And I'm jealous of your "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster. I've been admiring those for a while, but don't really have a wall to put one on.

I too have noticed the posters on some of the blogs I have looked at and really liked it. Glad you got one. You can share the sentiment with all of us. And a great big thanks for the framed quotations you put together from all the kids for me. I really love it!The girls' hair looks great!
