One Birthday Party Blog, Two Ways

Birthday Blog # 1, Traditional

We had a little Birthday party for my The Baron who just turned five. On the night of his actual birthday he informed me that he really likes donuts more than cake. So we rolled with that info and saved the cake for the playdate the next day and got him some donuts, just like the 5 year old ordered!

And since we had to host play date the day after his Birthday anyway (note: playdate group is called "Four Girls and a Little Man"), we decided to turn that into a little birthday for him. Dallas and Hallie even ditched school to come across town and attend with us (Yhea! Thanks for having your priorities straight, kiddos).

We had a Blues Clues theme with all things blue. The Baron  gathered up toys and various items from around the house for our decorations and we played games like "Don't eat Dog Food" and "Name that Doodle". We decorated our handy-dandy notebooks and of course included a little trip to the mailbox, a letter from blue and some Paw Print clue hunting that led us to sing Happy Birthday to Baron. A great time was had by all!

Blue Birthday Blog # 2, Clue Hunting

A funny story worth mentioning about the Baron's recent birthday party:
So we had a little Blue Themed party. One of the main things I was looking forward to was the blue kool-aid. (I know the stuff isn't healthy but I pictured it in my head, so blue and pretty that I went ahead and bought it). I even made sure to get the clear tumblers so I could get a picture of all the kids drinking their blue drink. Richard scoffed at my extra effort, but I knew that it was worth it. I even got a picture: see? pretty, huh!

Funny thing, though. None of those kids like blue kool-aid. Each of them said "I don't want this." and "Can I have some milk instead?" No body gave me any other "clues" than that. Just "I don't want this, I want some milk." So I dumped their koolaid cups down the drain and refilled them with milk. I'm thinking, "Silly kids! You never can tell what they're going to like."

Okay, so you can see where this is going. . . Luna came home from school that day, poured herself some left over koolaid and practically spitting it out blurted, "MOM! This is disgusting! What's wrong with this nastiness?"

Suddenly everything came together. I started laughing and realized I hadn't put the sugar in! I'm too used to the crystal light variety of sweetened colored drinks. No wonder those kids wanted milk! Next time I'll read the "clues" better and catch the sugar free problem before we dump it down the drain!

p.s. another clue puzzle we put together: The Baron's friend Kate became quite concerned in the middle of the party. She decided she wanted to call her mom and even go home. I couldn't figure this out since she comes to our house all the time and has never wanted to go home. She seemed disturbed but would not admit to being frightened by anything when I questioned her. We called her mom but she wasn't home.

I started to go over details in my mind and deduced that she got upset after the mailbox episode. She started asking all sorts of questions about Blue. Did he really write that letter? Did he really send Sam that present? How does he know where we live? Is he going to come here? Aha! Kate must be afraid of Blue.
Exactly right. When her mom picked her up I asked and she confirmed. Kate hates giant characters. They terrify her. Thankfully I don't own a giant Blues Clues Costume or I would certainly have cajoled someone into putting it on!

My kids got vrey excited when they saw the Blues Clues party --looks like a lot of fun. Laughing about the poor girl afraid of the real Blue coming to visit.

My kids loved the party, you are such a good kids party mom, you really put a lot of time and effort into your games and decor. That's probably why you forgot the sugar!
