Apparently, Sunshine is allergic

To penicillin. That's what they said when I took her in to the doc. She had hives on day 7 of augmentin (to combat a nasty pus filled ear infection). The doctor told me to give her a double dose of Benadryl every 6 hours to combat the hives. The next morning they were awful! She looked like the pink version of Violet Beauregard, all puffy. . .virtually unrecognizable. She was experiencing much more pain and suffering, scratching herself so much in the night that she still has light scratches on her legs. We took her back into the doctor and he gave her steroids. They made her turn a yellowish green color, but reduced her swelling. After the steroids, the hives looked like flat purple bruises in that shape bubbles make when they pop on the hot pavement. She still looked awful but at least she wasn't itching like mad.

But she's better now!

And as you can see, she's back to her delightful self. It took 3 days of double doses of benadryl and also 2 days of steroids to reclaim her. We're glad to have you back, Miss Sunshine.

Glad that she's better! I'll have to fill you in on my "secret weapon" for ear infections...Gigantor had TONS of them last winter, and LOTS of antibiotics which could never seem to clear them up!
And not one this year...
Call me sometime (or email me) and I'll let you know!

It was so sad!! Sam was calling her Darth Mal! I admit I wasn't there for it all, but it was enough for me!
