Spare

I've REALLY been meaning to tell you how much I've LOVED my month of Sparitarianism.
I would like to make up some t-shirts that say "Spare, not rare."  Seriously, if you make up that t-shirt and market it, I will buy it.  But you should give me a cut of the profits since I came up with the idea, deal?  I have all these yummy, yummy recipes I've been working on and it has caused quite a burst of creativity in the kitchen.

Ummmm, have I mentioned that  my mother in law gave me a Magic Bullet for Christmas (I'm in love with it).  Strangely I feel like this should be a secret, but you should secretly have one too--because if that gadget's not fun, folks, I don't know what is.  We use it daily (DAILY!  shhhhhh!) And, AND--my very own parents (not even knowing my plans for sparitarianism) they gave me a Mandolin for Christmas.  I think they were inspired. Imagine I've been cooking for 15 + years without one of these babies.  The thing is indispensable and makes cooking and eating veggies a breeze. You need one of these.  I have a Euroblade Slicer, cuz my daddy likes a good live infomercial, but really any decent mandolin will do wonders for your kitchen creativity (and therefore your health as well!) Check out some reviews on amazon.

Since I don't have time to give you the full sparitarian post tonight, I'll link you up to two awesome hummus recipes that we've been making near daily around these parts.  They are both from the food network.  One is Elton Browns.  It is a basic hummus with lots of lemon and garlic.  Ooh, the lemony-garlicly combination is amazing!  The other. . .I can't remember. . Emeril?  Bobby?  No, no--it's from Guy!  Guy, my apologies that I couldn't remember who gave my this recipe, but I will never forget in the future.  This Red Pepper Hummus Rocks!   They're both awesome and you'll love them, trust, trust.  We had hummus taste tests for our after school snack.  The kids who don't like hummus juiced a bunch of oranges and whipped those up in the magic bullet with some vanilla and thought they were orange juliuses they tasted so creamy.

And here's a picture of my veggie thai food & veggie tacos.  I got the inspiration for the Thai from my genius health guru SIL Kara's blog.  More details on that here.  You're gonna love going Spare!  Now get me that t-shirt if you would please, I've got to go chop up some more veggies.  Okay, really I'm going to bed and I'll chop veggies tomorrow.  Did you notice I practically gave you the full fledged post and not the shortened version?  You lucky kids you!

I love that you are on a first name basis with the fellows from food network. diggin' it. I have thing for those boys as well. thanks for the recipe find.

I also have a bullet and when we first got it I was surprised at its usefulness. I use it everyday and sometimes twice a day. They could put me on the infomercial. I could sell it for them.

Loved all the great food you prepared with you bullet and mandolin while we were there. And we are enjoying our new mandolin, espcially with your oranges! Thanks for everything.
