Disney: The Good and the Bad (or less Good, cuz it was really mostly Good)
Our spur of the moment trip to Disneyland was wonderful, delightful and super fun! It was also a lot of work. 5 kids are a lot of work, even when you are at the happiest place on earth. Here's the run down, the good and the bad:
The Bad: After departing late in the afternoon, we got stuck in a 3 1/2 hour traffic jam on the 1-10 west bound on Wednesday evening. Yep. No exaggeration, an extra 3 1/2 hours due to 3 separate (and so sadly, fatal) accidents on that stretch of highway with zero exits. Finally made it to the hotel at 1:00 a.m.
The Good: If we'd a left earlier, it would have been a 6 hour delay! Also, I spoke with strangers through my car window on the freeway and waved to truckers. As I told the children, we're lucky we were not in the accidents, just the ensuing mess.
***
The Bad: Mr. Handsome picked up some crazy bug at the gas station Subway that gave him a wretched soar throat, hot and cold flashes and a terrific headache. After tossing and turning for 3 hours he got out of bed at four and made his way to a Food For Less down the street for Meds.
The Good: He still got up with us at 7:00 so we could be at the gate 40 mins before they opened! Amazing!
***
The Bad: Even during the "least busy week of the year" Disneyland is crazy crowded!
The Good: Ridemax helped us avoid those crazy lines! We had a plan and we stuck to it!!
***
The Bad: after a very fun and full day on only 2 hours of sleep, Mr. Handsome called it quits right after our Hot Dog on a Stick Dinner (biggest corn dogs I've ever seen, that Award Weiner!) Advil Cold and Sinus can only do so much.
The Good: my little brood was very pleasant and easy going on mom the last four hours at the park and even let me take them all through It's a Small World--or as Sunshine calls it, "Short Town"-- as our last ride (by now it's a tradition!).
***
The Bad: We had to dash like mad men across a freeway onramp to get to our ".4 miles away" hotel
The Good: After crossing that section 3 times (across, back, across) we made it without someone slamming into us! Next time I will just trust Luna that its the right way to go the first time.
***
The Bad: Miss Sunshine was just barely too short to ride the Grizzly Bear River Run (and we even had a ponch for her. (oh, and another bad was that even though I had a poncho on, the insicious water happened to ricochet in such a way that it went right up my poncho and soaked my back side. How the heck did that happen?)
The Good: She got to eat some cotton candy while she waited!
***
The Bad: Mr. Handsome kicked my trash at Midway Mania! 182,000 to 78,000.
The Good: After he gave me some helpful pointers I upped my score to Level 4 the next day at 110,000! But he still dominated the family scoreboard. I am just not willing to sacrifice my wrists for that glory!
***
***
The Bad: My view at World of Color
The Good: Everybody else's view at World of Color
***
The Bad: Mr. Handsome says you only ride the Steam Boat if you're there for 3 days
The Good: He changed his mind at the end of day 2
***
The Good: Grandma kindly watched Mr. Bingley for 3 1/2 days while we were gone and report are that "he was an angel"
The Bad: He is making me pay for leaving him. Clingy, whimpery and ON-REY!
***
And now just for the Good:
Favorite moments: Taking pictures of Sophie on her favorite ride--"Silly Swings" Also, finding my "lost" husband on the Silly Symphony Swings late Friday Night with both arms outstretched squealing in such delight I was sure he was going to launch himself into the midnight sky. Awesome seats at Alladin. Snapping a gazillion pics of my kiddos

You kids are too cute! A last minute trip to Disneyland? Can I be in your family. And dear sister, you are absolutely adorable. Do I have to have three more kids to look as fantastic as you? I love the picture of you in the brown blazer with your sun glasses on your head. It's so you and you are so stunning! Miss you. Maybe someday we will live closer.
Miss K, your comments are all too nice! (And since you comment on my new brown blazer I must tell you about it. . .it is off the rack at the Goodwill! I love the thing. Shiny caramel colored corduroy and pocket styling that make me think of Canadian Mounties. The gold buttons say "NZ In The Service of Her Royal Majesty". Do you think it is from New Zealand? I love a piece of clothing with a back story!) I loved our last minute trip to Disneyland and invite you to come with us next time! Nobody know how to do Disney quite like my man :)
So jealous of your trip! And What are the silly swings? I don't think I've ever ridden that? Clearly I'm in need of a last minute Disney trip myself.
It was sooooo much fun! Angela the Silly Symphonies is a new ride to replace the Orange Stinger. Lots of fun!
So glad y'all had such a good time, and that despite the snags you ran into were able to roll with the punches so that all turned out well. Everybody in the pictures looks happy. Hope hubby got over his bug and that Mr. Bingley is acting more cooperative by now.
Sounds like lots of good...just what a trip to DL should be!
Looks like a lot of fun,I love your spur of the moment trips, we need to try that some time.
P.S. I think it's funny that Rich is so sure he picked up his bug at Subway.
Wow, what a fun trip! I would never think to go the week before Christmas. You've got to be oh so organized! It was still busy? Yikes!
I too do not know what the silly symphony swing are. I also haven't seen that water light show. Gotta be something new at California Adventure.
