Ahhhh, back to school! Back to school, I LOVE you! I mean, I really, really am truely in love with you and the person who came up with you. Who is this thoughtful person we can credit for public school education? some founding father? Some founding father's clever wife? One of my historian friends can fill me in on who we get to thank for this one of the most glorious days of August! Because I want to name back to school day after this person. I am so truely grateful for my kids education, that they are learning, that they are growing that they are with friends and that all this is happening in my neighborhood, just a few houses down. It is like a glorious miracle!
Yesterday, after getting my munchkins off to school I. . .
Did 3 loads of laundry without interruption,
Actually cleaned up after breakfast,
Read stories with Miss Sunshine
Scrubbed down my bathroom
Pumped some iron for 50 mins at the gym (okay, its plastic, but weighted plastic--still counts, right?)
Made dinner (and knew what I was making for dinner ahead of 5:00p.m.)
And Focused on details of my life previously neglected, abandoned, completely forgotten (namely, I vaccumed my bedroom floor--that is my robot did vacuum my bedroom floor)
All day long I happily worked, interruption free (except for my happy little cherub Mr. Bingely--he doesn't count as an interrupter). They go to school, do their work and then we happily reunite for after school snacks, conversation over crisp gala apples with peanut butter. It is genius, I tell you, genius! I don't know what the name of that founding father was, but I think his wife's name is HOPE. Hope is what I felt all day long.

Love this post. I've got 10 more days until school starts, and I must confess that I am looking forward to it immensely. I adore my four kids, but they are much happier when they get breaks from each other. So, happy back to school day to you, Becky.
Such a great feeling to have them back in school!
Do we get a guest post from M&S about the first day of middle school??!
This post made me so happy. I have been reading all of these blogs and facebook comments from moms who are dreading the first day of school because they love being around their kiddos so much. I was feeling like a bad mom because I was looking forward to that day. I love my kids but i too enjoy them being at school and learning so many things. I also enjoy the peace that it brings to my home. When my boys are apart for most of the day, they make the most of the time they spend together and fighting is a minimum. I am so glad I am not the only one that looks forward to the first day of school!
Amen, to that Sister Jamie, Amen!
amen and hallelujah.
How is it that you love something I am loathing. I thought we were two peas in a pod.
Nancy, Remember this: 6 kids under one roof for weeks straight is a recipe for constant annoyance: "Mom, he's kicking me!" "Mom, she took my spot!" All. Day. Long. And its too hot to go outside! My kids are bored and chomping at the bit and I just want them to be happier and structured again. And remember, too, I still have five and six here with me throughout the day, so no time for tears here (yet). They'll come when Charlie goes off the kindergarten in 4 years!
Glad your back to school day was such a happy and productive one. Hope the kids liked it too.
My girlfriends and I call the first day of school High Holy Day. We gather for brunch and lots of diet coke.
