It's Here!

I will admit to loving Halloween. My kids love it, too, especially The Baron. I spent the bulk of Tuesday afternoon unwrapping my halloween treasures from their stored in tissue packaging, placing and rearranging. (I have never felt that decorating comes easily for me since I don't think of my self as "visual" or "spatially" talented--that talent went to my sisters). I needed everything to go in new places this year with slightly different furniture, so I couldn't rely on pictures of last year's presentation. I even moved some heavy furniture all by my little old self, swapping the china cabinet with the buffet--I dragged the heavy stuff on towels over the wood floors and said, 'no sweat'! Actually, I did break a sweat, but I didn't kill myself or my daughter or break any of the heirloom china.

My goal was to get everything looking descent and storage boxes tidied and put away before my husband walked in the door. I can't have my husband thinking I'm wasting my day away! So with the kids help we gathered up all the tissue paper wrappers and ran the boxes downstairs right before he pulled up. What did he think, "Wow! Somebody's been working today. You've really outdone yourself." We'll call that a Halloween Mission Accomplished! I love October, even in AZ.

(**as a side note, I think of Halloween marketing as a barometer for the economy. Two years ago Target's Halloween stuff was over the top great. Last year, scaled back but still priced the same as the year before. This year they seem to have a bit more "excitement" in their products, a bit more showmanship in their presentation than the year before, but the prices are starting out lower (that's a good thing). And Walmart and Michaels have definitely scaled back their Halloween from the previous year. Is this weird that I notice these things? Regardless of its weirdness, it is true. This year, there is no giant headless anamatronic bride at Michaels talking about her husband leaving her at the alter. I think that might be a good thing, too!)

Looks so great! You have about 10 times the amount of Halloween treasures that I do. Maybe I need to go shopping!

PS, it is cold up here in Utah!

Becky, you do not need to aspire to my addiction to Halloween clearance sales. In fact, I need to find a 12 step program to get over my own!

I love it! I went to go get out my Halloween decorations, and guess what, I can't find them! Seriously I'm cursing the Mayflower moving company. I have one more place to check and if they aren't there I don't think they'll be making a debut in our new house this year!

Your decorations look great, especially the witch sillouette. I too have loved Halloween decorations for many years and loved making new ones each year to add to the collection. The new thing this year was a black crow. I guess it was you who told me that this year owls were in! Oh well better late than never.
