You've all heard the phrase, "New Year, New You." We're doing a little twist on that for 2009. It's "New Year, New RESTAURANT." A new restaurant that will inspire you to be an even better version of YOU.
True Foods.
I have been a big fan of Dr. Andrew Weil (or "Andy" as my server at True Foods refers to him) since I saw his special on PBS a good 10 or 11 years ago. I immediately went out and bought his book Spontaneous Healing and have read all his books since every time I get a little health food itch. Dr. Weil teamed up with that famous restaurateur Sam Fox (think Sauce, Olive & Ivy, North) to bring us True Foods, a restaurant that combines Dr. Weil's passion for healthy super foods with Mr. Fox's reputation for uber cool restaurants.
Though I admit I find it a bit over priced (I thought everything was about $3.00 too high, & now you know my price range), I loved each of my visits to True Foods. Our first evening there was for Andrew and Reachel's anniversary celebration. I got the Butternut Squash and Harvest Salad with a Honey Dew Mint drink. Everything delicious and our server excellent. Might I add that the water was the best un bottled water I've ever had a restaurant.
The ambiance was fun and open. There are tables where the prep cooks are chopping away and we noticed that the servers clothes gave a nod to the "doctor" in "Dr. Weil." And I will tell you another tid bit--the restrooms at this joint are not to be missed. The sinks are awesome and the water to wash up is soothingly warm, but the highlight is the hand dryer. It is a super charged turbo blower machine that is put out by Dyson. It must be the first hand dryer that "doesn't loose suction" ; it just sucks up all the moisture on your hand in a good 4 seconds. Nice.
We made the drive out to the Biltmore again for lunch since not all could join us on our first foray. It did not disappoint. This time I tried the turkey wrap with a kale side salad. Again, delicious. The side of roasted vegetables were my absolute favorite. They tasted straight out of my Grandpa garden. Some other samplings at the table were the chicken curry, the farro with fig and a cheeseless pizza that was pure yumminess.
If you're wanting to try something new and ultra healthy that still tastes great then go. I found it worth the drive.

You should get a job reviewing restaurants! You do a great review. It all sounds so good and healthy. How was the kale salad? I would think it might be a little tough, raw. I do like it cooked though. You know that I too am a fan of Dr. Weil. I just manage to cheat too much to be a true follower.
Mom, the kale was lightly steamed. It was a simple preparation with some nuts and a little cheese with maybe a lemon vinagrette over it. What I liked was that you could really taste the pure flavors of each ingredient.
I love Dr. Weil! Where is this place? Papi is a "man food" kind of guy. Think meat, lots of meat. Would he like it? Or should I take my mom?
I saw that restaurant the other day on Sonoran Living, good to know it's tasty!
Ondria, it is at the Builtmore shopping plaza in Phoenix (about 24th street and Camelback Road). I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say its not a "meat and potoatoes" kinda joint, though really good food. Go with your mom for lunch to test the waters.
