Teach Em Young

Comfort. The real, honest, down into your soul kind of comfort. I've been thinking about this lately and searching for more of it in my daily routine. As part of this, we have as a family tried to show more commitment to our family scripture study. Let me tell you, this has worked out great. . .with the older three kids. The younger two are basically bouncing off the walls and bopping people in the nose with scriptures. To look at us, you might think nothing's getting through to any one with all the commotion. However, we are not easily detoured! I am a firm believer in President Benson's promise that reading the book of Mormon regularly will promote more harmony in your homes. We've been studying by topic, with focus on what I call the "great sermons" chapters (i.e. King Benjamin, Alma 5, etc--if you have a favorite, leave a comment, I'm taking suggestions!)

Sunshine is not still during scripture study. Quite the opposite. This must be a reflection of her excitement with God's word, right? Because really she has become quite taken with the scriptures. See. . .I found her curled up with the Book of Mormon in my bed the other day. Ah, the scriptures are comforting, aren't they dear.

Read on, my daughter, read on.

What a cutie. Our two youngest also keep scripture study exciting. And, if they're not crying or laughing, I'm falling asleep on the couch while Jared's reading. We keep doing it even so, and then some nights of scripture study are magical...there will be some verse that gets us really talking about something. I like your idea of focusing on some of the great sermons. I feel like we need to do something with scriptures besides just read straight through the Book of Mormon, which is what we've been doing for the past year. A while back, I would just get out a picture of a scripture story from the Gospel Art Kit, tell the basic story, and then read a few verses from the scriptural account. Thanks for your post. It's got me thinking about how I want to improve our family scripture study.

Your description of the antics going on during your scripture study sound vaguely familiar. But some of it must have registered, so keep it up.
