Summer Update

Here's a bitty little catch up post. It's summer, so I'd say we've been taking it easy, but somehow life seems just as busy as ever! It must be with all the kids home I've got extra meals/dishes. Admittedly, they've been darn helpful with the chore chart (thank you soooooo much for the food/chore chart inspiration, Scripture Mom! It's worked like a charm).

Here's the going ons and happenings. . .

Girls have been dancing through life with their musical theater summer music camp. They love it and I have a secret hankering to pretend I'm 12 (frankly, I know I could pass for 12. People have told me that before. . .that's another post entirely. . .back to my sentence) pretend I'm 12 and slip into the back row of their rehersals. I'm sure I could go unnoticed! They were practicing their hip hop dance to Hannah Montana's "Pumpin Up the Party" the other day and I found myself standing there 10 feet behind them pickin up on all the steps. (Yah, I think I can dance!. . .at least in the privacy in my own kitchen! Ha. Ha.) They caught me mimicking their moves and gave me the stoney faced look that 10 year old twins are famous for. I said, "What? How do you know I'm not secretly a pop star? Mom by day, Superstar by night?" I definitely had them thinking for a second on that one. Every day their class has a theme. Yesterday was "Pirate's Life for Me". As you can see our family takes dressing up as a serious opportunity. The girls put these little outfits together that morning all on their own and the unibrows/facial hair were their brainchild. They're a crack up!

The Professor, The Baron and I have been engaged in Sun Salutation bonding. When you can't find time to exercise in the summer by yourself, then--even better--have the kids join you! So the boys and I hung out with Rodney Yee on the beaches of Maui practicing our stamina today. They were very good and I was quite impressed with their focus. They stayed with him the entire workout and seemed very thoughtful about it. The term "warrior pose" was helpful to this, I'm sure.

Little Miss Sunshine has a new do. I do believe it makes her look very grown upish.

And Handsome noticed on his way home from work that he recognized a name on the school marquee. He had me walk down there and take a look.

StarGirl has earned 400 AR points! Congratulations!

So that's what's been happening in our first week of June. What's going on with you???

Sounds like a fun summer. We'll have to get together soon before we take off.

What exactly is Savanna being congratulated for?

She earned 400 AR points (accelerated reader which is a nation wide program). She used her end of the year point system to buy that marquee name "reward".

That theater camp sounds awesome. Love the pirate costumes. I'm impressed you can get your boys to do yoga with you. Way to go, Savanna! Sounds like you have a "wait, mom, one more page" kid in your family too. Love it.

Congratulations on all your reading, Savanna! Glad you enjoy it so much. I loved to read too when I was young, but mostly my Mom made me practice the piano. So it was a lot of fun when your mother came home from school with a reading list and I got to go to the library for her and check out the books and read a lot of them too. I am still enjoying it. Have a fun summer and we'll be seeing you and all your family soon.Love Sophie's hair.

your blog is so cute. i love seeing what all the kids are doing with their summers. school is not out here yet.
its really lame we have only had two or three days at 75 degrees since last summer!!! we are freezing up here. its not summer at all....its its JUNE-U-ARY!!! i am about ready to pack my bags and leave. i just planted my garden and i really hope we get any sun this summer.
i just have to tell you this ( this will be a very long blog comment) ruby got glasses yesterday and she kept telling me over and over that she looked just like Savannah!!! she was obsessed. and i kept saying, no, you look like RUBY with glasses.
it was cute that she was idolizing savannah.
