Handsome put up the pool for the kids on Tuesday night so Wednesday meant ALL DAY swimming. I love it because my kids stay happy and active the entire day. In fact, The Baron was so wasted that he when he went to swim lessons in the afternoon he was so beat he wouldn't get in the pool! As soon as we're done with dinner in the evenings Handsome gets on his suit to play with the kids again. They give me a hard time that I didn't join them, but I'm waiting for the water to warm up just a bit more. . . (this is where you're supposed to give me a hard time that I'm a water wimp and need to do a little LIVING with the kids!)
All this back yard fun means I'm am continuing to fantasize about really re-landscaping our back yard. I have this fabulous plan in my head (and I even wrote it down to show to Handsome) but involves major things like relocating full size citrus trees and releveling the land to allow for better irrigation and building a pergola and outdoor fire place. . .do you think that if we have outdoor patio furniture that's "couch" style (see Bali inspired photo) that I'll sit on a scorpion?

Since Handsome has deemed my current plan unrealistic (after I drew down the plans for him he looked at me, then the paper. . .wrote down the number "50K" and looked at me again stoney faced.) So I'm thinking, maybe I'll just get one of those gazebos I'm seeing all over the place and create an outdoor dining area. Have any of you ever used those? Do they stay looking nice or do they start to get trashed? I just love being outdoors! And I'm wanting to make the most of the backyard I do have instead of pining away for my neighbors acreages. . . (that sounds like I covet my neighbors land which is completely untrue!) So let's play Landscaper's Challenge and you can tell my of your great inspiring plans to turn bland and boring into beautiful outdoor living spaces.

LOVE that backyard pic!
And what fun...a pool!! (We may have to crash your yard one of these days!)
Hope that some of your backyard dreams come true...do you want a dog to enjoy the backyard with? I'm thinking that I may need to rid myself of one of mine....
;)
Those are some beautiful pics of your fam. How fun to have a pool in the backyard. You're so lucky to have citrus trees in your yard, albeit not in the perfect spots for your plans.
Cute pics of the kids in the pool. I am totally with you on waiting for the water to warm up. I never get in a pool unless the outside temperature is over 105 degrees. I like it warmer. As for backyard plans, I would like a covering for our brick patio, too. But being able to withstand the monsoon winds make all my choices either unrealistic or totally over budget...
I wish I had some ideas for you. We would love to do something with our backyard too. I just want to grow lots of food and have it look pretty. I thought yours looked pretty nice too.
I'm loving that cute picture of Sam. Can't wait to see you guys this summer.
You've got cute kids, you know that?
I was just telling Jonathan that I really would love to live by you guys but probably not in AZ (we'd melt!!). ANy plans elsewhere?
We loved the pictures of the family in the pool. Richard you are looking rather handsome! I almost didn't believe Sam was in that little ball under the towel. What a cutie!
The kids and Richard look like they are having a lot of fun. You should be able to go swimming with them now. Didn't it get up to 100 the day we left, yesterday? So now your water should be warmer.
the pool pics are sure cute, good lighting. I know about wanting a great backyard, that is my one hesitation with Daybreak, there is some cute outdoor furniture at Target and Wal-Mart (they have a better homes and garden line) these days, I'm sure you could do a lot of that. The scorpion thing is a real worry though. A friend of mine that has a nice outdoor furniture set also has a big storage bin that she puts all the cushions in as soon as they are done sitting on it, she doesn't keep that out all the time. I think you'd have to be like that and take good care of it if you wanted it to last. But if you want a cheap fix up, they have apple green, baby blue, and red plastic adarondak chairs at Home Depot for $10, ya and they look nice. You could get some of those and buy some cute outdoor fabric to make cushions. That would be a start at a lot less than $50K!
Becky, love your style for the backyard. But when you have such a great looking family like you and Rich have, who needs gorgeous furniture. I want that color scheme in my new house. Oh wait, we will never sell our home. We just put the sign out for kicks....
What is this fear of sitting on a scorpion? Are scorpions attracted to outdoor cushions? I am thinking of getting some cushioned patio chairs myself and I am suddenly alarmed. Please calm my fears and explain.
