Primarily Talented Kids!

Can I mention how much I loved our Primary Ward Talent Show last Friday? Watching all the children perform their numbers was such a treat! Everyone so creative and fun. It made me think. . .we're so encouraging of the children and their talents, no matter how advanced (or unadvanced) their skills may be. . .why are we so hard and critical on ourselves as adults?

Think that one over and get back to me!

In the meantime, check out the pics of the kiddos.

The Baron:

The Baron told 3 jokes.
His routine went like this: "Hi. I'm The Baron. I have 3 jokes for you tonight. The first joke is a dinosaur joke [holds up dinosaur]. Knock, Knock. [audience yells: "Who's There?" ] The Varon says: "Tyrannasaurs Rex." [audience yells: "Tyrannasuarus Rex Who?"] The Baron says: Tyrannasaurs Wrecks the House!

"Next a chicken joke [holds up chicken]. 'Why'd the chicken cross the playground?' [pause] 'To get to the other SLIDE" and he slides his chicken through the air!

"My last joke is a scripture joke. [he gets on his horsey stick and is wearing a cowboy hat] Pretend Nephi is a cowboy. What's the name of his horse? [pause] Beuntoyou. . . .Whooooa Be Unto You!" (we learned that joke from Elder Richard G. Scott when he sat with the kids at the kids table and made everyone tell jokes!)

Really, for a 5 year old, he did a great job! You could even understand most of what he was saying.

Then the Girls rocked the house with a "singing" (okay really it was a full out lip sync cause they got to nervous to sing even though they know it, but the music was blaring the words so it still worked out great) rendition of "Hercules, Zero to Hero" from the Disney movie. If you recall, the lyrics to this song are hysterical and their dance routine really played up all the funny parts. [" Bless my Soul/Herc was on a roll/Person of the week in every Greek opinion poll. . .]

I'd like to say I got some great shots of the actual performance, but. . . I was so enthralled in the performance that I couldn't find the camera! So I made sure to get some shots in their costumes when we got home:

And I was so stinkin proud of Jacob being involved in his class's performance of "Dr. Suess does the Book of Mormon." He has had such stage fright in the past, but looks like he's over that now. He played Lehi. Right here he's dwelling in a tent:

Don't you love these Jerusalem meets Suessical costumes? It was a dramatic reading all in rhyme about Nephi and his brothers going to get the plates. So cute and funny! The only line I remember to share with you is Laman saying, "I cannot read the Liahona. . .I must have drunk to much Corona!" Ha! Emmette made us laugh with that line.

Isn't celebrating the talents of children so great? It was a fun night. And really, we should remember that we're all just primary kids, only a little bit more grown up!

Here's two more great groups:
A cowboy dance (milk jug heads)

And a Rockin Robin puppetier group! So cute!

Looks like a lot of fun. We are having a talent show for the kids later this month but we have not had very good response. How did you get everyone excited?

Looks like fun. But that joke was actually Nancy's. Elder Scott's was about a couple dogs.

It was a terrific night and all the kids did so well. Worth all the time and effort (and threats) to help them prepare--they only remember the good feeling of performing, right?

looks like fun, I think we need to do that in our ward, what kid doesn't want to perform on stage?

What a great show. I am sure your kids were the best there. I am excited about coming and going with you and the girls to Disneyland. Uncle Austin said last night that he really wished he could go too. Where did you get the script for the Dr. Seuss Book of Mormon skit? That sounded great. Loved the Herculese number in the movie. Were those the costumes you called about making? And I love cute jokes. Sam could tell them to me over and over again as I never remember them from the last time.

Wow, what a great idea. How did you come up with the Book of Mormon skit? I may need to bug you for creative ideas in the future.

I stand corrected on Elder Scott's joke! I know I wasn't there, but I imagined it so many times, it feels like I was!

And I can take no credit for Jacob's skit as that was all Emmett'e mom, Missi. I do have a copy of the skit hiding somewhere on my overgrown desk. It was super cute!

i am SOO impressed that your kids had the guts to preform.
how did you bribe/munipulate/threaten them to do it?
I try, but ruby will not deliver.
i put her in theater camp all last summer. and have her in a theater class at the rec center right now. i am hoping to amp up her stage abilities. (since i have none) i had talents , but no guts. it was a crying shame and pity. hid everything under a bushel.
good job for having your kids get the experience of preforming.!!!!
