I admit to not being a huge Valentine's Day Person in the Past. Waaaaaaayyyyyy too much pressure. It was like in order for it to be a descent day it had to be transformed into something sonnet worthy with a handsome man swooning at your beauty and presenting you with gads of exotic flowers. You would have to blush at his excessive ways but secretly love every second of it.
This never happened to me.
I would rationalize, saying that Valentines was really a marketer's ploy to usurp my day. That Hallmark and The Red Roses Company teamed up to market this ridiculously contrived, Eros heavy holiday in an attempt to make me think my life was unsatisfactory. I mean I really went through an anti-romance kind of phase. It just seemed too fake and contrived.
Now that the emphasis is on Family love instead of Hollywood Style Romance, I like it so much better. Now Valentine's Day is just plain old fun, even a little magical. Indulge me with a few pictures here. I heart attacked Handsome's car and the kitchen (a huge thank you to our dear onehm for putting comments back up on her blog! oh how we missed them! Think of the inspiration that has been teeming from your blog pages since you've reinstated them, my dear,) We gave each of the kids one of those glittery cups from Target with monkeys, froggies and lady bugs. That night we had Barro's pizza on the fine China with Rootbeer in grandma's Waterford crystal. I even decorated by putting up some red things that week. And it worked. It was a great Valentine's Day! So I'm now officially on the I like Valentine's Day list and the anti-romance phase is long gone. Love is in the air!

I love your valentine's decor. I'm glad you came around. I think family V-day is really more fun too.
Loved your Valentine's decos and the heart attack on Richard's car. Hope everybody had a fun day. We here made treats for the missionaries, which is a no no generally but the branch president's wife said it was O.K. for such a special occasion. The 2 other women brought treats too so we got to sample all of them and had a fatteningly good time.
the heart attacking is very cute, and I'm loving the romantic pizza dinner, hmm.. good idea.
Beautiful.
Wonderful.
Adorable.
Love it!!
(Glad that the comments are helping your Valentine's Day!)
And I have to say that Jamie did an EXCELLENT job on the family pictures. They look phenomenal!
(Of course it helps that you and your little family are seriously good looking!)
The pictures of your kids are adorable! I really like the black framed setup! Very cool mom you are, Becky!
A very fun day this year. (I generally DREAD the day...way too much pressure and artificiality. I didn't grow up on a household were "romance" -- or gift giving for that matter -- were demonstrated very well.)
Gourmet pizza served on fine china was a nice touch. Lest there be any misunderstandings, the beverages on the table are root beer and ginger ale (two of my favorite drinks). Both very delicious.
The potted plant and chap stick are a reference back to our first Valentine's Day as a couple back in 1995.
Too cute! You are so fun breaking out the china for the kids. What a wonderful way to celebrate a once depressing and frustrating holiday! Go Kids, they rock to make stuff like this so fun!
Well put Becky! The family celebration is the way to go. When we figured that out, I looked forward to V-day again! It looked like you had a great celebration, one the kids will remember. I love Barros pizza too.
Family Valentines is a great idea.
