Did you know that Road Town, Tortola is the capital of the British Virgin Islands? Did you know the population of said island is only 23,000 people? Or that Richard Branson had a private island right off of this island and that's why he names his company Virgin (or so I assume)? Let me tell you, I knew none of these things, either. I don't think I'd even taken note that there existed some British Virgin Islands as separate entities from the U.S. Virgin Islands. I obviously had a lot to learn!
Before I left I realized I knew NOTHING about these places and so how in the world would I know where to go or what to do on the one little day I had to frolic and play on their shores. Amazon came to my rescue in the form of this book, delivered over night to my house (way for some speedy service, Amazon. Way to throw 5 -7 business days out the window!)
This little book (actually, its 800 pages long) gave top recommendations and must see's for each island and I must tell you, it did not disappoint. Lonely Planet's Guide told me if you've only got one day in the BVI, grab a quick ferry to Virgin Gorda and spash around The Bath and Devil's Bay. After doing just that I can assure you it is one of the prettiest spots on the entire planet, even when shared with dozens of other cruisers.
We did an actual boat excursion that day to get us to Virgin Gorda and my only complaint was that I wish I could have spent more time here. All day I had to keep closing my mouth after seeing one jaw dropping beautiful spot after the next. Here's some picture highlights.
Do you like how I blurred the people in the background out really poorly with my iphoto software? Trust me, it looks better than the people did!
(which of these two shots is the better composition, my camera minded friends? Teach me, teach me!)
After soaking in the gorgeous blue waters and exploring with the snorkels we decided to check out "Devil's Bay" via the caves. The name Devil's Bay is a rouse to scare people away merely so you could enjoy this place all to yourself! I had to mind my manners and close my mouth again. And scaling over bolders, sloshing though ankle deep waters and then under more bolders through an area called "The Caves" to get to Devil's Bay just made it all that much more exciting!
The wildlife at Devil's Bay consisted of lizards, hermit crabs and chickens. This one was hungry and after Jill's apple.
I have etched this color in my memory so deeply that I believe my brain is now blue.
Pretty, ya think?

Girl, I am loving your blog right now-- reliving all my wonderful memories with the lovely, talented, fun Bagleys. Thanks for such a wonderful time! And writing all about it in your blog. Can't wait to do it again.
Love,
Steph
more, more, I want to hear more!
You now understand what I meant when I told about the view from my big laundry room windows in the Canary Islands. The water was quite a distance from us, but the air was clear and we saw that beautiful blue of the sea and sky most days, with the added feature of the occasional passing ship. It is forever in my memory too.
Looks so blue! I love the picture of you and Mr handsome in the first post. You look great.
Absolutely, incredibly amazing and beautiful. You look gorgeous, fit mama. That water's color of blue...dreamy.
