Pie Could Use Your Advice

Pie need your help?  Pie wanna talk baking?  Pie don't think this is funny anymore?  Anyway, last night I confessed to Mr. Handsome that I've had something cooking on my mental back burner for several days now (or should I say baking?).  Ever since I was assigned PIES for thanksgiving dinner (okay, I confess, I volunteer with my hand in the air pick me, pick me!) I have been in a quandry about exactly which of the many pie recipes I should tackle this year. I am thinking I should make maybe. . . six?  different kinds? (I am extra confident with Pammie by my side.  She is an expert pie maker).

So give me your best pie advice.  Pam's Traditional Pumpkin and Becky's Cranberry Walnut Tart (Heaven Help Me I Love this Pie) are certainly on the list.  No questions asked.  But which of the many others should we make---oh, what to bake, what to bake?!    Here's the list of possibilities (recipe links with some picture where possible):

  • Cranberry Apple Crumble Pie from Pie Love You
  • Sister Katie's Deep Dish Apple (also with Crumb Topping).  Hmmmm. . . .
  • Martha's Pumpkin Cream with Ginger Crumb Crust.  I have Martha's Recipe in the mag, but it is very similar to this one .
  • Also, I must try something from Dorie Greenspan. . .here's the options. . .
  • Dorie Greenspan's Caramel Pumpkin Pie (have you read Baking from my Home to Yours?  Really, the woman talks about food in such a way that hundreds of women nation wide try out a recipe a week from that book). Sounds soooooo yummmy.
  • Dorie's Thanksgiving Twofer Pie.  Pumpkin on the bottom, with a not too sweet pecan topping.  Its Pumpkin/Pecan all rolled into one.
  • Dorie's Depths of Fall Butternut Squash Pie--Check out this ingredient list:  butternut squash is melded with pears, cranberries, apple chunks walnuts, organge juice, cinnamon and fresh nutmeg
  • Dorie's Cranberry Lime Gallette with Chopped almonds
  • OR--stay with me, Something completely unexpected for fall, but sounds so delicious it can not be ignored:  Dorie's Soft Chocolate and Raspberry Tart.  Shouldn't Chocolate get a nod at Thanksgiving now and then?  I, for one, am very thankful for it.
Quandry.  For sure.  I am not making 10 pies so somethings gotta give.  Lets put it to a vote!  Pie Poll!  Let me know what your favorites are in the comments and really, you MUST make the Cranberry Walnut Tart for  your guests this year.  It is nothing short of divine.

My husband says to to PECAN!! Don't forget the pecan.

My persona faves are apple and coconut cream. But most of those you mentioned sound heavenly.

I vote for something chocolate, but I generally don't like the chocolate/fruit combo. I'm more of a purist..But I'm sure they'll all be delicious. Thanks!

when we were at Betsy's a number of years ago for Thanksgiving she and Mandy made coconut cream pie which I had never had at Thanksgiving before, but let me just say, it was AWESOME. Maybe think about cream something.

We loved all the pies! Every flavor was wonderful. One of my new favorites was the apple cranberry because it tasted like rhubarb. And we did not forget the pecan, we just added a little chocolate and it was even better than the plain pecan.
