Christmas Time Really Can Make Parents Crazy

Walking past my daughter's room on Sunday afternoon I noticed her church dress discarded there in the middle of the floor. I will put that away for her I said (she is only 3!) Bringing the dress up to the hanger in my hand I suddenly balk and think "why the heck does my daughter's Sunday dress smell like DOG?"

Ha ha ha ha!

That's a true story, people, and the funny part is because next I remind my little self, "Oh, yes, that would be because we are DOG PEOPLE!"

Have I mentioned my husband decided to surprise the kiddies with not one, but two dogs as an early Christmas present? And in the spirit of surprises, he leaned over to me in the middle of our family photo shoot on Thursday evening and said, "Oh, by the way. . .we're getting a dog tonight. . .and there's actually two of them."
Yep, that's how it went down, folks.
Don't worry.
Fortitude is my watchword and I managed to keep smiling for the rest of the shoot.
Nerves of steel, that's me.

We have now been dog people for a good 4 days & here's my assessment. Dogs are a lot like kids. Busy, messy, immature, time consuming. And completely adorable.

In trying to psych myself up to be excited about these new additions to our family I reveled in the excitement of finding the perfect name for this brother and sister duo. Some of my favorite combinations were: Ginger and Pepper, Tink and Captain, Fred and Ginger, Caramello and Snickers. These are all great doggie names, yes?

My kids say, no [NO!!]

While I was busy coming up with a list of cute names, the kids just named em. And though I tried and tried to redirect their efforts, it was to no avail. I am clearly outnumbered. And so world, I give you our new, child approved doggie names. . .drum roll please. . .

Penny and Phillip

It really must be love, because even Phillip's name is beginning to grow on me. Heck, these puppies are so cute they could get away with just about any names. . .they already get away with defecating on my carpet and I still like them. Like I said, much like children.

I was quite surprised when I read on Rich's facebook about the dogs. Jeff wants to get the kids a dog for Christmas but I'm stonewalling. Maybe we can just come visit yours.

Shock! And I thought Rich was obsessed with clean florrs. I guess he just put two more nails in that coffin. But such cute nails!

your Sophie is suddenly not as interested in my kitty anymore. and you're smart to get 2 so they can entertain themselves. we kind of wish we got 2 cats.

I am in shock, but they are adorable. What breed are they? And look at that smile on Sophie's face! Who is going to look after them when you are away for your Christmas holiday? Or are you going to bring them with you? If so, maybe we had better go with my suggestion of going to Heidi's first and then they could just stay there for the whole time? And what kind of surprise have you in mind for Richard? And who has he contracted to train them?

Mom's comment is cracking me up! But really, look at that smile on Sophie's face. And they are adorable.

yes, mom's comment is classic, and the dogs are adorable, but not as cute as Sophie. Seeing as how you basically have two more kids on your hands now maybe you could just send me Charlie and Sophie, then you would be more free to train those dogs. You only think I'm joking...
