Remember

Since my camera has yet to be replaced, I have no pictures to remember my parents recent visit. Instead, I've written down a few of the ordinary moments that miraculously add up to equal the Magic of Grandparents. Here they are in no particular order.

Things I want to remember about having my mom and dad visit:

  • explaining to Sunshine that her Grandma is my Mommy. She was incredulous.
  • My Dad taking The Professor on a 5 mile bike ride that ended up at circle k for thirstbusters.
  • Laughing when The Professor described his day “running errands and fixing sprinklers” with his Grandpa: “But Mom. You said we were only going to go to a few stores. But grandpa says we have to compare prices.” He & Grandpa were gone all day. I shoulda known!
  • Mom teaching dad to use the pliers to pull the yarn through when tying the new birthday quilt for The Professor. It turned out gorgeous and is even better knowing Grandpa himself tied some of the knots.
  • Laughing with mom over my ginormous bag of mismatched socks.
  • Hitting the new Ranch Market for queso fresco: loading up the cart with Sangria & Dad wandering around the meat department. Cow’s head, anyone?
  • Bribing Luna to babysit with promises of "heart attack" donuts from said market.
  • Getting to say the family prayer before Mr Bingley’s blessing at home.
  • Having the bishop and his sweet wife join us for Mr. B's beautiful blessing. Feeling blessed surrounded by my loving and supportive family.
  • Listening to StarGirl sing classic Disney songs with Grandma at the piano.
  • Grandma bringing us a giant mini swimming pool to keep Sunshine and The Baron happy.
  • Sunshine and The Baron fighting over Dad’s garage sale stuffed Rottweiler—actually, this goes on the "would like to not remember" list!
  • Reminiscing about our childhood over the spinach strawberry salad at Claim Jumper (ohhhh, the sweet yet tangy goat cheese in that salad matched my sweet (yet tangy) childhood!). Loved the story about camping with a family of six kids one summer: mom & dad had packed up all the gear and loaded all the kids into the car to hit the road for another day of driving to the next destination. Dad was driving down the road, about to leave the camp ground when suddenly a young Austin—who they had thought was in the back of the van--appeared in the middle of the road (Austin was known for his Houdini like antics. He said “Hey Dad! Where ya headed?” Glad we didn’t leave you in the Canadian back woods, Austin. We like you.
  • Holding my sun bronzed Sunshine in my arms as we waved good bye curb side, Wednesday morning. Once their car was out of site, she buried her head in my chest and began to wail, “I want Grandma! I miss my Grandpa!”

I know how she feels.

Catherine. Isn't blogging fun for catching up with old friends? I just saw your dad at the temple last week and so was thinking about you. He and my father had a nice chat in the lobby.

that last comment is from Becky. Online life can get confusing once you give your pre teens email addresses!

I can't stop laughing about Dad dragging Jake around to "compare prices". Classic.

What a great visit we had with you and your family. And you expressed everything in such a fun way that we didn't even miss the pictures. Glad we are missed, as we miss all of you too. Looking forward to seeing you later in the summer.

That's practically better than pictures, how did I miss the part about you baptising Charlie last weekend, I didn't know that. Maybe I would have tried to come!

P.S. Now Jake is a certified member of a very exclusive club of people who have "compared prices" all day with Dad...

Nancy, I went back and read it over. Becky mentioned a couple ot times about Charlie's blessing, but I didn't notice anywhere anything about a baptism.

ok, you are making me wish I had been there, and your parents have no idea who I am. They sound lovely, but then again, they produced a lovely lady.
