An Ordinary Day Done Just Right

So I got one of the greatest gifts ever for Mother's Day this year. . .TIME. Specifically, Handsome's time. He gave me a coupon saying "I am at your disposal. . . a gift of one full day of my time." Oh what a cherished gift! And finally, after much scheduling and rescheduling, I got to cash in on my coupon. It was a glorious Saturday. Perfectly ordinary in nature, but glorious non the less. This is because I got to plan the whole day! I didn't want a play all day, vacation type of thing. Just a plain old Saturday work day where my agenda takes the lead.

First on the list, yoga. A good morning always starts with a nice Sun Salutation, right? And Handsome was right there at my side, stretching in his first triangle pose. I was so involved in my vinyasa that no pictures were procured as evidence, but trust me it was great. I have asked Handsome to do yoga with me at least a dozen times and he just shakes his head and says, "Becky, I don't want to do yoga." But not today. Today he did it without complaint and I think he even liked it (not that he would come out and admit that, but a girl can just tell).

Next, scripture study. We read aloud together from the Book of Mormon, another pre-requisite to the perfect morning.

Then after breakfast, which we made together for the kids, onto our first project of the day. My chair! My sad and sorry unfinished chair that has had so much potential sitting forlornly in the corner of my room. Every day for months it has called out half heartedly, "someone, please, finish me!" I would hang my head every time I passed her. It really was a two person job, though I'd tried valiantly to do it on my own. But with Handsome's hammering skills and me to hold the nail head firmly in place with the needle nose pliers, we got 'er done! And she looks great. Really, really pretty. So my five dollar Mesa Family Auction chair has had a flattering make over and is now all done! Horrah!

After that we cleaned the laundry room together. Handsome pulled out the appliances and we fished out the lint covered socks (how do so many socks end up behind the dryer??) We removed the many bags of D. I. things to their permanent location (that's the garage, not D.I.-ha!) I windexed the surfaces of all 4 major laundry room appliances and moped the floor. It was like a once in a blue moon kind of cleanliness. Really, I should have taken a picture. What was I thinkin?

After lunch with the kids (again a togetherness kind of clean up) we de junked the storage room and found a new resting place for all the families winter coats. Why I had kept our winter coats in a prime closet near the front door for 3 years here is a mystery since they are rarely ever used. We moved them down to hanging rack in the storage room where they're covered in plastic. Rarely used. I love going into my newly reorganized storage room now as the piles of costumes have been moved off the floor and into the appropriately labeled Halloween box.

By now it was mid afternoon and we snuck away to pick up some furniture that had arrived at Cortate Furniture in Gilbert. Since we had to drive past Agritopia I figured we'd better pull in there and check out the cute houses we used to fantasize about. They're still cute, but seem more normal now that there's people living in them instead of there being model homes we can walk through as a cheap date night. Since we were there, Handsome surprised me with an early dinner at Joe's Farm Grill. Burger and Strawberry Shake. . .hmmmmmm. . . hit the spot!

The bulk of our evening was spent putting together the desk hutch & then putting the kids to bed. Hansome thought he might get off early at 9:00, but he kindly helped me clean the kitchen until 10:00 p.m. Like I said, it was one glorious full day of his time. I went to bed at 10:15 thinking it couldn't have been any better. (And he stayed up until midnight working on what he wanted to do!) It sounds like I really enjoy cleaning, and it is a much better proposition with Handsome at my side. He asked me recently if I enjoyed my Mother's Day Present of Time. My response, "It was a perfect day. When can I sign you up for another one?"

It's always better to do projects with a friend by your side. Now I need pictures! Pictures of the chair and pictures of the hutch! I'll be there tomorrow, but pictures would be nice!

I have been worrying about your chair ever since we got the thing started. So glad you were able to finish it. Now, I echo Nancy's plea for pictures. Tell us about the hutch and again, pictures.

Isn't it great that you have a sweet husband who you want to do the cleaning with. I thoroughly enjoyed your ordinary day play by play with the little bits of Becky humor. So fun!
